* What is a DENIER?

A DENIER is the unit of measurement for the thickness of the yarn used to make stockings and pantyhose.

The lower the DENIER number—8, 10, 15, 20, etc.—the finer and more transparent the stocking or pantyhose. Conversely, the higher the number—40, 70, etc.—the thicker it is, with less skin visible.

On the other hand, there are opaque microfiber stockings and pantyhose in 50 and 100 denier, where the skin is barely visible. These are commonly used in autumn-winter.

Stockings and pantyhose with a low DEN number are typically used for the spring-summer season. They can be worn the rest of the year, for example for formal events, as the fineness of the stockings makes them appear more elegant.
